Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 17, 2022

At Don’t Strain Yourself, we feel it’s important to clearly and plainly communicate the type of information we collect and how we use it. So, we created this privacy policy to explain our privacy practices and the reasons for them. Please read it carefully before using Dontstrainyourself.com (the “Site”).

First, you must be 18 years of age or older to use our Site. Second, by using our Site, you are agreeing to the terms of this policy, and we encourage every user to learn more about how and why we gather and use information. If you don’t agree with our policies, then we’re sorry and don’t want to lose you as a visitor, but please don’t use our Site.

Your Information and How We Use It

Our Site, like most commercial websites, uses two kinds of information: personal information that you provide to us, and generic information that we collect automatically. To sum it up, we always want to improve how our Site works and better serve our clients. Data analysis helps us achieve those goals.

We do not collect your personal information just because you visit our Site. However, if you choose to contact us, we ask you to provide personally identifiable information about yourself. “Personal Information” includes your name and email addresses. It’s pretty basic.

Do I Have to Give You My Personal Information? Only if you want to contact us via the Site.

What if I Don’t Want to Share My Personal Info? If that’s the case, then we’re sorry, but that’s the deal.

What is Generic Information Anyway?

It’s a good question and the bottom line is that modern computer networks are set up to share information about the computer you are using. So, generic information includes things like:

  • The type of Internet browser you use.

  • The operating system of your computer or mobile device.

  • General Site navigation data like the number of users that visit a specific page and how much time a visitor spends on a page.

Our Site is hosted by Squarespace and we/they collect, study, and use this bulk information to help analyze Site traffic and improve the Site. At no point does this generic information personally identify you. Please keep reading for more details about how and why we collect and use information.

Automatically Collected Information

Like most commercial websites, when you visit our Site we automatically receive the generic information above, and, we also collect your IP address. This stands for Internet Protocol which is the electronic numerical address of your computer on the Internet.

One type of IP address is called a Static IP address, and unlike randomly assigned IP addresses, they do not change. Because they do not change, they are considered personal information. Mobile devices use something similar called a Unique Device Identifier that is kind of like an electronic serial number. This is also considered personal information because this does not change no matter what cell or WiFi network you use to access the Internet. However, while the Static IP address or the UDI never change, the user cannot be recognized as a specific individual simply from a Static IP address or UDI. We may also automatically collect generic information about your browsing habits, entry and exit points for the Site, page views, and impressions.

Internet Cookies and Our Site

Cookies have been around for decades. They are small text files placed on your hard drive by a website when you visit it. We use them as well. These files identify your computer and record your preferences and other data about your visit so that when you return to our Site, it recognizes your computer and can personalize your visit.

In general, we use cookies to collect information so that we can determine how to improve our Site by seeing which areas, features and products are most popular, to personalize the Site and improve the experience. Most browsers automatically accept cookies as the default setting.

Your Cookie Settings

Most browsers allow you to control your privacy settings. You can modify the cookies setting to reject cookies or to prompt you before accepting a cookie from the sites you visit.

Do Not Track Requests

Depending on what browser you use, you may be able to change its privacy settings to send a Do Not Track request to our Site. However, our Site does not respond to these types of browser signals.

Children's Privacy Policy

This website is for people who are 18 years of age or older. Accordingly, we do not knowingly collect information from individuals under the age of 18.

The Lawyers Made Us Say This Part

As a good corporate citizen, we comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This means that we may have to disclose personal or generic information if we’re required to do so by law. This includes complying with legal process served on us or when we believe disclosing information is necessary to protect or defend our legal rights or property of us, the Site, or our users. We will also disclose information in an emergency to protect the health and safety of the Site's users or the general public.

Third-Party Websites

We provide links to other websites to learn more about our business. Please remember that we do not control the content or security on those websites, and their privacy policies will differ from ours. We encourage you to review and understand their privacy practices before providing them with information.

It reports website trends without identifying individual visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics without affecting how you visit the Site. Business Transfers

Information about our users and the Site is one of our most important business assets.
